Striped sunflower seeds are larger than black seeds and have a harder shell. The biggest are toasted and used predominately for human snacks, whilst the smaller seeds make their way into wild bird food. Striped sunflowers are attractive to bigger birds such as woodpeckers, however nuthatches can also crack them open.
